8 months in South East Asia
I think I've had a bit more than one week between coming back from Spain and departing to Singapore where I lived from July 2015 to February 2016 to do my internship for Lufthansa. So probably 2015 was the craziest and most existing year of my life. However, Singapore was a totally different experience than anything else.
The city has lots of facades; there is this rich side with the nicest hotels, bars, restaurants, parks and free events for the community - Singapore has money and likes to show it, then there are all those rather unmodern facilities, where I somehow felt to be in India. Speaking of the mixture of people and cultures is just unique. You have little India, China town, European areas and other Asian nationalities and all under one "roof" (I think it's unnecessary to talk about the culinary advantage that comes with it).
The best part of Singapore? Well, there are actually two:
1) It's a main hub AirAsia, meaning you can travel everywhere in Asia for very little money. So during those months, I've been to Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and even to Australia again.
2) Lady's Night on every Wednesday. The dark side of Singapore was definitely that other than all other SEA countries living expenses are crazy high (I've paid 850 Eur/ month for a 9 sqm room in a shared flat... ok ok I had a pool in front of the house and the view from the 13th floor wasn't bad either, but that's kind of standard there). However, going out for drinks was certainly not within my budget. So I don't know who invented Lady's Night Wednesday - but bless you mysterious person! During certain hours each bar and club had specials for all females, most of the times free drinks. When you're a poor expat like me, you want to make the best out of free stuff as possible. So I created a schedule for the Ladies Night in Singapore to get as many free drinks as possible and well it worked!
After my six-months internship, I went backpacking through Thailand and Cambodia with my lovely friend Jule. We had an amazing time, not even walking with crutches, hiking with broken flip-flops or hookers in our hostel room could ruin that.
